Mason Philip Smith biography: Mason Philip Smith has had extensive one-man and group exhibitions in museums and galleries nationally and internationally. A portfolio of his landscapes of Maine are included in the Traveling Exhibition Service of the University of Maine, Orono, Maine.

His documentary photographs of vernacular Maine buildings are preserved in the archives of the Maine Historical Preservation Commission, Augusta, Maine. A collection of his large format photographs of early Maine colonial gravestone carvings, done under a grant from the Maine Arts and Humanities Commission, has been exhibited throughout Maine and is currently part of the collection of the Maine Historical Society.

In recent years he has photographed extensively in Korea, China, Japan and Vietnam.

He is the author of Confederates Downeast; Confederate Operations In and Around Maine; Towards Arkangelsk and co-author, with Peter Dow Bachelder, of Four Short Blasts, The Great Gale of 1898 & The Loss of The Steamer Portland. www.masonphilipsmithphotography.com
