Arla Patch earned her BFA and MFA in sculpture, but photography has been central to her life since she started shooting with her Instamatic at age eleven. Photographing her own artwork and documenting travel were a constant, but 25 years ago, with a young son to care for, Arla increased her commitment to photography when she found it provided more flexibility than sculpture studio work. Since then she has divided her time between sculpture and photography, as well as incorporating both media into a teaching program of healing through art for adults and adolescents. A vision of a woman made of ferns led to a body of work that ultimately became the book
A Body Story, (nominated for Outstanding Book of the Year by the Independent Publishers and awarded Honorable Mention for Most Life-Changing). Arla lives on a mountain in western Maine.
